The holiday season may be over, but that doesn’t mean there’s no place for fun times and employee recognition in your office. There are plenty of opportunities in the first quarter to build stronger teams and show employees you care. Get ready for Quarter 1 with these reminders.

The beginning of the year is the best time to show that your company values diversity, starting with Martin Luther King Day on January 20th. Every year over 2 million people across the country volunteer in honor of Dr. King for the MLK Day of Service – whether your office is open or closed, you could organize an optional service project for your team to participate in. Doing good together brings your team closer and sets a tone of compassion for the year.

February follows with Black History Month and International Women’s Day is on March 8th. Even just a small acknowledgement of these diversity-honoring occasions can mean a lot to people.

Valentine’s Day on February 14th is the perfect chance to say, “We love our employees!” Valentine’s Day can draw mixed reactions from people, but everyone loves to be reminded that they’re appreciated. And it’s not your only chance: Employee Appreciation Day follows a few weeks later on March 1st! This is a great excuse to gift company “swag.”

Sunday March 8th is the start of Daylight Savings time – don’t forget to remind employees to “spring forward!” Then, Spring really begins with its first day on March 19th.

A less fun but very important event to stay on top of is tax season. In the end of January be ready to distribute W4 forms. Plan out your Q1 so nothing is left to the last minute. March 15th is one month out from tax day.

Finally, don’t forget St. Patrick’s Day on March 17th. Celebrate with sweet treats or a happy hour.
